It's about us and the things we think and do. It's about our future and the things that are shaping it. It's a bit about politics, a bit about religion, a dash of science, and a pinch of us.

I didn’t sit on a couch with anybody.

Rick Santorum • Speaking at a campaign event at the USS Alabama Battleship Park, during which he also proudly declared that global warming “is not climate science, it was political science.” The couch line was a reference to a 2008 video that his opponent, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, did with the then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi on climate change. Gingrich was not the only target of Santorum’s speech, the candidate quickly reminded those in attendance that Mitt Romney imposed the nation’s first CO2 cap during his time as governor. “We don’t need somebody who changes when the climate changes,” Santorum said, “We need somebody who looks at science with a clear head and a level eye.” source (viafollow)

Santorum Cites Racist Author To Defend His Views On ‘The Dangers Of Contraception’

cognitivedissonance:

In not-shocking news:

Santourm’s decision to rely on Charles Murray is no less distressing. Murray co-authored The Bell Curve, which argues that black people score lower on IQ tests because they are genetically inferior to whites. To reach this conclusion, Murray relied on studies backed by the Pioneer Fund, whose original mission was to pursue “race betterment” for people “deemed to be descended predominantly from white persons who settled in the original thirteen states prior to the adoption of the Constitution.”

Murray’s latest book, Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, is a similarly rigorous work of scholarship.

Let me remind you, Rick Santorum — previously an also-ran afterthought in the GOP nomination race — is now the front-runner for the GOP nod.

I don’t care for Obama, but damn GOP — it’s like you want him re-elected.

Wait…

If they get Obama re-elected, they don’t have to try to unbreak shit. They can keep blocking everything and blame Obama for doing nothing.

I see what you did there, GOP. Run the birth control-hating, slightly racist stooge, lose, bitch about everything. Bravo.

That is your plan, right?

Mitt Romney: Santorum donor
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum may be trading licks as the battle for the GOP nomination rages on, but the two weren’t always at odds. The above screenshot of a filing from the Federal Election Commission shows Romney donated the maximum $4,200 to Santorum’s failed Senate re-election campaign in 2006.
As iWatch News previously reported, Romney’s “Commonwealth PAC” also sent Santorum a $10,000 donation that same year. Such contributions are often given to try and curry favor ahead of future electoral campaigns. Santorum threw his support behind Romney’s presidential bid in 2008 — an endorsement he has since tried to walk back.

AWESOME.

Santorum’s ‘Satan targeting U.S.’ speech resurfaces

A 2008 speech in which Rick Santorum declares “Satan is targeting” the United States has resurfaced on the campaign trail, even as the Republican presidential hopeful faces controversy over recent comments questioning President Barack Obama’s “theology.”

Santorum claims that "forced euthanasia" is an epidemic in the Netherlands

paxamericana:

In the first part of the video, Santorum imagines many elderly people in the Netherlands wearing bracelets with the text “don’t euthanize me”, and makes up some statistics about the large amount of seniors being euthanized against their will. This really takes the ‘death panel’ story to the next level, although Santorum doesn’t deserve all the credit, it seems the urban myth about the bracelets can be found on a variety of conspiracy websites. If he ever visits Europe, I really hope he remembers to wear his bracelet well visible.

Here’s a fact check from Dutch Redditor Guustaaf:

“Ok for the record, let’s just check what he is saying:

There is a “do not euthanize” bracelet In the Netherlands, because half the people that are euthanized are euthanized involuntarily

False, no such bracelets exist, and every euthanasia case must start with a request from the patient. Neither the family nor the doctor can initiate the procedure, which has very clear rules:

  • the patient’s suffering is unbearable with no prospect of improvement

  • the patient’s request for euthanasia must be voluntary and persist over time (the request cannot be granted when under the influence of others, psychological illness or drugs)

  • the patient must be fully aware of his/her condition, prospects and options

  • there must be consultation with at least one other independent doctor who needs to confirm the conditions mentioned above

  • the death must be carried out in a medically appropriate fashion by the doctor or patient, in which case the doctor must be present

  • the patient is at least 12 years old (patients between 12 and 16 years of age require the consent of their parents)

More on the wiki.

10% of all deaths are from euthanasia

False. In 2010, 136058 people died in the Netherlands, of which 3136 through (reported) euthanasia. That is 2,3%. Of course not every case will be reported, but I assume most of them will, because when a doctor does not follow the guidelines that have been set in Dutch law for euthanasia (including reporting it to a review committee), it is still illegal, so that would be a huge risk to take for the doctor.

Elderly people in the Netherlands don’t go the hospital, they go to another country, because they’re afraid, because of budget purposes, that they will not come out of that hospital

While it is true that a growing number of people go to Belgian and German hospitals for non-urgent treatments, this is because of the shortage in healthcare professionals in the Netherlands, because of the population ageing, resulting in waiting lists in Dutch hospitals. This is still a fairly small amount, around 2% of operations on Dutch patients is done in foreign hospitals. But it certainly has nothing to do with ‘budget purposes’. The Netherlands is in the top20 for both life expectancy and on the WHO ranking of healthcare systems, well above the US, which I assume would be harder if we were just killing old people left and right.”

Apple, you have all those employees over there [China], you wanna bring them back, you’ll pay a 35% tax. Under our plan, you bring them back and open a factory in Charleston, you pay nothing.

Rick Santorum, answering a question about how he would bring manufacturing back into the U.S. with power companies like Apple already based in lower-cost places like China.

Rick Santorum just launched a thorough denunciation of Newt Gingrich’s qualities as a leader, questioning the credit he takes for the 1994 Republican revolution, and decrying his leadership as Speaker of the House: “I served with Newt, I knew the problems that were happening in the House of Representatives. Four years into his term as Speaker he was kicked out by the conservatives.” He derided Newt’s tenure as producing a plethora of ideas, but completely lacking in discipline.
